Madeline Cooper overall race winner of the East/West Midlands, North West, Yorkshire & North East Regional Regional Road Race championships on June 1st

Result: East/West Midlands, North West, Yorkshire & North East Regional Road Race

The race took place for the first time in Duffield on a 17.2 km circuit featuring 224 meters of elevation per lap. The open race covered 125 km, consisting of 7.5 laps, while the women’s race was 90 km long with 5.5 laps.

In the women’s race, five regional titles were contested: North East, North West, Yorkshire, West Midlands, and East Midlands. The race began at a steady pace, with the peloton staying together for the first two laps. On the third lap, a breakaway of five riders formed, closely chased by a group of eleven riders just 15 seconds behind. By the fourth lap, the two groups merged into a larger breakaway that held a one-minute lead over the peloton. This lead was caught in the final lap, resulting in an uphill bunch sprint where Madeline Cooper emerged victorious, followed closely by Mika Soderstorm and Ella Tandy.

The regional champions in the women’s race were as follows: Miriam Jesset (Loughborough Lightning) for the North East, Hannah Clough (University of Nottingham CC) for the North West, Madeline Cooper (EventRex) for Yorkshire, Ella Tandy (Tofauti Everyone Active) for the West Midlands, and Elena Day (Loughborough Lightning) for the East Midlands.

Adam Lewis (East Midlands) the winner of the East & West Midlands Regional Road Race on June 1st; Daniel Barnes first West Mids rider

Result: East & West Midlands Regional Road Race

The race took place for the first time in Duffield on a 17.2 km circuit featuring 224 meters of elevation per lap. The open race covered 125 km, consisting of 7.5 laps, while the women’s race was 90 km long with 5.5 laps.

In the open race, an early breakaway of three riders formed on the first lap and held a lead of over a minute for most of the race. Due to heavy showers and the difficulty of the course, the peloton experienced constant changes. A chasing group developed by the fifth lap, and the remaining riders eventually split into three groups, the front of which caught the leading trio to contest the win. Adam Lewis secured a commanding win ahead of Caleb Pain, with Oliver Dawson finishing third. The East Midlands Champion was Adam Lewis (Team Skyline), and the West Midlands Champion was Dan Barnes (Spectra Racing).

It was an excellent day of racing, and congratulations go out to everyone who competed.
